Gulf Hills Country Club, is a Resort, 18 hole golf course located in Ocean Springs, Mississippi.
Gulf Hills Golf Club forst opened for play in 1927. The course was designed by Jack Darey.
In 1927, the Branigar brothers, from Chicago, IL, developed Gulf Hills. They had built, the golf course, clubhouse and 13 upscale homes.
The original 13 were purposly built without kitchens or laundry facilities. This was a very exclusive community. residents ate at the clubhouse, and all laundry was picked up and returned clean and folded by clubhouse employees. Legend has it that the resort was developed especially for the seclusion and entertainment of Chicago crime figure, Al Capone.
The clubhouse lounge was named the "The Pink Pony". Photos show many movie stars, gangsters and members of the "upper crust" enjoying drinks, dancing and entertainment. Elvis Presley frequented The Pink Pony and loved to play the piano and just relax.
During those days, the course was so popular that tee times were actually auctioned off to the highest bidder the night before.
Throughout the decades, Gulf Hills has been bought and sold many times. In July of 1998, the current residents purchased Gulf Hills and have had it restored. The resident owners take great pride in Gulf Hills Golf Club and continually upgrade and beautify the grounds. They strive to preserve the history and protect the integrity of Gulf Hills.
The course is open for public play.

Good course to play. Hilly terrain. The layout is challenging. Fairly priced. Many people come down on their vacations to play this course. I would recommend it to anyone.
